you'll do:This position is responsible for selecting, managing, and
reporting data within the Internal Credit Risk Review (CRR)
department. The Credit Risk Review Data Manager will perform tasks
that increase the data-driven operational successes of the
department, using tools such as SQL, Dax, Excel, Tableau, Word and
Power BI. The Data Manager should be proficient in developing and
managing reports in various formats, including, but not limited to,
Excel, Tableau and Power BI. While this not an IT position, this
position is directly connected to the Internal Credit Risk Review
department's day-to-day responsibilities and should be proficient
in the Bank's data elements. The Credit Risk Review Data Manager
will create relevant visualizations of data, manage current CRR
databases in the respective application(s), create new calculated
variables and/or ad-hoc reports, and create or edit the data in
order to tailor generic datasets towards the CRR department. The
Credit Risk Review Data Manager is responsible for effectively
communicating progress and output results to other members of the
department that will use the information, many of which will not
have the same knowledge of data manipulation as this position
requires. This position requires using datasets whose content is
related to commercial lending and/or any other potential data that
might be reviewed by the department. A learning mindset towards
credit, loan operations, finance, accounting, regulations, and
commercial banking is strongly preferred. The incumbent is expected
to demonstrate a high degree of confidence in working independently
on ad hoc tasks as needed for the department. This position will
also support the Credit Risk Management Review Director in
accordance with the Credit Risk Oversight team's review and
oversight of the Bank's Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) process.
Being involved with the oversight of the ACL process, the incumbent
should be skilled in understanding credit requirements and
portfolio segmentation, as well as, reviewing credit approval
packages, credit risk ratings, problem loan reporting, and other
similar credit-related items. The Data Manager's knowledge of
credit will allow for seamless interaction with members of the
Bank's Credit Administration Department which executes the ACL
process. In addition, the Data Manager will stay up to date on the
latest risk-related news and trends across the financial services
industry, economics, markets, politics, etc. and apply critical
thinking to anticipate potential impact(s) on the performance of
the Bank's loan portfolios. This position is located in either
Scottsdale, AZ, Dallas, TX, Las Vegas, NV, San Jose, CA, San Diego,
CA, or Los Angeles, CA.Internal Credit Risk Review is a department
within the Bank's second line of defense for credit risk management
known as the Credit Risk & Review Group. The independent Credit
Risk & Review Group's mission is to help ensure the financial
soundness of the Company by identifying, assessing, and escalating
credit risk to the Board and senior management, and to drive
continuous improvement in the quality of the bank's credit risk
management consistent with the risks and complexities of its loan
portfolio. To execute its mission, our Group is organized in two
separate, but synergistically collaborative teams comprised of
Internal Credit Risk Review and Credit Risk Oversight.What we are
looking for: Responsibilities:
- Utilizes data management tools effectively inclusive of, but
not limited to SQL, Tableau, Excel, Power BI and others.
- Creates data visualizations ("dashboards") as the department
sees fit, that are easy-to-read and insightful.
- Confidently uses SQL and other data languages/aspects to
quickly and automatically manage very large databases without
error.
- Communicates with WAB's IT department and WAB's data stewards
regarding safety and security of data, and the permission to
manipulate it.
- Assists in the maintenance of the CQS (DiCom) system which is
the primary CRR working platform. Also, works as liaison between
Western Alliance and DiCom.
- Assists in performance and completion of special projects
related to data analysis as may be assigned by Coverage Team
Leaders on an ad hoc basis.
- Executes certain departmental administrative functions and
reporting.
- Communicates with the Credit Administration department as
needed to perform tasks.
- Reports directly to the Credit Risk Management Review Director
in reviewing the 1LOD's ACL process to provide assistance on any
and all areas included in this process.
- Demonstrates an enthusiasm and willingness to learn about
commercial banking, lending, and risk management.
- Ensures consistent application of Credit Risk Review Policies
and Procedures.Qualifications:
- Demonstrated study of Statistics and Data Science, either
through a bachelor's degree in relevant fields, or previous work
clearly showing advanced experience in relevant fields
- Successful completion of formal credit training program is
preferred, but not necessary.
- Previous credit risk review experience is preferred, but not
necessary.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, Tableau, Power BI, Word, and SQL
is required.
- Demonstrated understanding of data analysis and statistics, as
well as strong analytical skills with an emphasis on credit and
loan portfolio review.
- Demonstrated a willingness to continue learning about the Bank,
inclusive of any additional applications that may be involved in
the required tasks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
Ability to understand business and industry concepts in order to
develop and suggest intelligent, viable solutions to problems.
- Knowledge of commercial banking operations and commercial
lending credit policies is not necessary, but a willingness to
learn and develop these skills over time is strongly
preferred.
- Experience with very large datasets where manual review of data
is extremely difficult or impossible.
- Knowledge of database management and safety such as backup
management, live connections, and encryption is preferred, but not
necessary.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
with the ability to carry out instructions and instruct others,
train personnel, interpret complex documents, understand
procedures, write reports, correspondence, and procedures, and
speak clearly to lenders, management, and employees.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal
skills required with ability to present complex and sensitive
issues to management.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated, effective in a dynamic fast-paced
environment and willing to demonstrate personal responsibility and
accountability.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently, with a high
sense of urgency, and mange timelines accordingly.
- Ability to work independently on routine monthly items and
ad-hoc assignments.
- Works well individually and in teams, shares information,
supports colleagues, and encourages participation.
- Flexibility to travel as required.
- Participate in required Bank training, including but not
limited to annual BSA/AML/OFAC and Compliance
Training.Compensation: Salary range for new hires is generally
$149,295.00 - $175,642.00 for Los Angeles, CA. Salary range for new
hires is generally $132,710.00 - $156,125.00 for Las Vegas, NV.
Salary range for new hires is generally $159,250.00 - $187,352.00
for San Jose, CA. Salary range for new hires is generally
$149,295.00 - $175,642.00 for San Diego, CA. Salary amount is
determined by specific job location. In addition, the role may be
eligible for annual bonus/incentives earned and restricted
